Trek26 South Devon Coast - 13 miles · 10 September 2022 ·
The KA2 team and I is taking part in Trek 26 South Devon Coast – 13 Mile to raise vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Every three minutes, someone in the UK (United Kingdom) is told they have dementia, and there is no cure.
Dementia is all too familiar to our CEO, Chriss Andrews, who sadly lost her mother, Enid, to vascular dementia in 2019.
Enid endured a three-year battle with this progressive disease and passed away at age 93. Despite suffering memory loss, confusion, numerous strokes and heart attacks, frequent falls and broken bones, Enid lived a very full life focused on friends and family. She demonstrated such strength, resilience, and dignity in the face of this terrible illness.
And Chriss is not the only member of the KA2 to experience this disease firsthand. Karl Henneker, KA2 Head of Technology and Business Operations, sadly lost his grandfather, Baden, who passed away in 2003 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dementia not only devastates the lives of those living with the disease but the lives of their loved ones and those that surround them. So, whilst Chriss and Karl will take part in this trek in memory of their loved ones, they will also be walking in support of all who suffer and the friends and family of those whose lives have been devastated by dementia.
As they say, families stick together, so other members of the KA2 family will support Chriss and Karl and take on this challenge with them.
Lewis Martin, KA2 Head of Enterprise Service Management, is leaving the keys to his motorbike at home, much to his dismay, to strap on his walking boots.
And the newest member of KA2, Darius, will take on the trek and be initiated into the KA2 family. He signed up for the team on his very first day at KA2. Now that’s commitment! Darius joined KA2 as part of our graduate training program, having completed his MSc at the University of Kent.
Together, the four embark on this journey through the English Riviera, enjoying stunning views across the water as they walk through woods, along cliff tops and past stunning beaches and all for a fantastic cause.
Every penny that we raise will go towards helping researchers move closer to finding a cure and providing support to carers.
So please dig deep and donate whatever you can to the Alzheimer’s Society. Or, if you feel up to the challenge, you can help us to raise even more money by joining our team.
Let us unite in the race to defeat dementia.
