Story
On September 25th 2022, I'll be taking on the 21 mile route through the beautiful Five Valleys around Stroud, Gloucestershire. What a fitting way to remember Andrew (pictured), who loved walking and all things outdoors, whilst raising as much money as we can for a very worthwhile cause. Thank you so much for considering a donation to support me.
Andrew was in his first year at University when he contracted meningitis. Despite the considerable efforts of specialist medical staff he succumbed to this terrible disease aged just 19 and our world changed forever. That was over 20 years ago now and, whilst we have mostly come to terms with our loss, the entire family still misses him terribly and wonders what he might have become had he not fallen ill. The sudden nature of his passing left us all numb and we were grateful for the support offered by meningitis charities who were on hand to help us through a very difficult time. Ever since then we have been fundraising to try and help provide much needed resource allowing others to be supported as we were and to fund research and awareness programmes that aim to minimise and eventually eliminate deaths from meningitis.
This walk covers 21 miles of beautiful countryside and, as the name suggests, meanders its way through five valleys and the hills in between. The height gained is as much as climbing Mt Snowdon so it's not an easy stroll; every penny you donate will be well earned. I know times are tough this year and everyone has had to tighten their belts but if you can spare a donation, however small, it will make such a difference.
Meningitis Now estimate 22 people contract meningitis in the UK, every day, and that's 22 too many. Would you consider sponsoring me for £22 which is £1 for every person who may contract menigitis on the day of the walk and also equates to £1 per mile (as I will have to walk half a mile to the start and back again at the end!) Thank you.
