Over 14 million people in the UK (4.5 million of which are children) live in poverty. In 2021, the Trussell Trust distributed 2.1 million food parcels to those unable to afford bare necessities that define a minimum standard of living. Those numbers are only set to increase as a result of the recent cost of living crisis.
Food banks are a cause I have been supporting since I was a child, both via school and church. Those interactions made me realise that poverty is not just a third-world concern - it also manifests itself much closer to home. I greatly admire the contributions food banks make to alleviating the consequences of poverty and to reducing the amount of food and resources going to waste.
This month, I’m glad to have the chance to raise money for the fantastic Trussell Trust by accepting the challenge to climb the highest mountain in Wales and England - by night. So, if you could spare a small amount, please join me in supporting this cause.
Thank you,
Christiaan
