Story
Overweight, just turned 50, never run further than 5km before, I entered the London marathon ballot, confident in the knowledge that the odds were massively stacked against me getting a place, and look what happened!
The haters (mainly my kids) said I didn't stand a chance of making it to the start line, let alone the finish line, but with less than two weeks to go there's a chance I might just prove them all wrong (there's also a decent chance I'll prove them all right).
I've done a lot of visualisation work, I've watched 'Chariots of Fire' and read 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner'. My training has taken me to places I've never been before, like the funny little bit behind West Wickham, I've hit the wall more times that I care to remember, and I've even thrown up once or twice.
They're saying that if I complete the marathon it could be the greatest sporting achievement since some other fat middle-aged bloke ran quite a long way. I don't have a set time for finishing the marathon in mind, I'm just hoping to be done before the government sets off that funny alarm on my phone.
If that's not worthy of your charity ,then I don't know what is! But even more importantly, I'm running for an amazing local foodbank & support charity, Living Well Bromley (see below), which helps people most affected by the cost of living crisis in Penge/ Beckenham and the local area, providing food and support that changes their lives for the better.
I hope you agree that this is a cause worth supporting, but even if not, the thought of me putting myself through 26 miles of hell must be worth something?
Many thanks.
