Dear friends,

I am writing you because I would kindly ask you for support. Believe it or not: I was convinced to walk a half-marathon in the middle of the night for charity. And this is where you come in now…
Let me start at the beginning: Most of you know me quite well. I always liked sports, especially b-ball and weightlifting...

BUT: Just walking around for ages? “Nope, not with me; I even take the bus to university which takes 25 minutes instead of walkin for 20!” Walking around just for fun at night? “Yep, very funny”. Take part at an event, where you have to walk half a marathon (over 20km) in the middle of the night somewhere outside on a hilly path, where you can barely see anything? “Ok mate, now it is not even funny anymore…why would someone do that?”

THEN: I got to know this charity thing at my university, called RAG, which stands for Raising and Giving. It works that way that students do some strenuous, hard, and mostly uncommon things in order to motivate their friends to support the charity. I mean, first of all students have to pay for their own ticket (including food and stuff) to participate. Then, they oblige themselves to raise from people they know a minimum amount of money (in this case 25 Pound). I immediately thought: All right, my friends would probably do that, they would support me for sure…But hold up: Then I realised I would have to walk a half marathon….

SO: First of all, I donated as much as I could afford by myself to make others doing this (not just because of making them walk, but also to support the charities :-). Soon I realized though that it is much more important to become active and do sth by yourself. If it would not have been this half-marathon thing though! Ok, at the end I said fuck it, if there is sth. you can do to help out, do it. Especially when that means to get more people involved in donating!

AT THE END: Now, I am sitting here with my ticket in my hand and (still) willing to (try to) do this. The other thing and this is really true, I have no proper shoes around and it is probably going to rain. But never mind. I will do it, as long as there has been donated some money till tomorrow evening. So, please support me on that one. If it works, I will maybe even do weirder and crazier things the next time for the sake of charity (but not a full marathon, no, no, no) …Oh and by the why. ALL THE MONEY “RAG” (which is a registered charity) makes, GOES DIRECTLY TO DIFFERENT CHARITIES. NOT to University, NOT to single persons (all volunteers) and nothing like that. I know that for a fact, because I have spoken to the charities and know the people who run this RAG thing.

AT THE VERY END: Anyways, would be great if you could donate a little bit for RAG (I will send you pictures of course as well…). It is quite easy. I mean, as I said, I did it quite a few times, too, at first. You can pay by credit card or PayPal (if you don’t have any of these, get it, it is really quite useful) and you can only pay on this (totally safe) site, which transfers the money directly to “RAG”. So, I will never see a penny of it.

(This here is the website of Rag, which shows that the half-marathon is indeed today...I am able to collect donations until the end of next week)

Let’s see how much comes together. I just set a goal of 50 Pounds, since I thought we can do that. Everything over 25 Pound is already quite good though and will cover the minimum donation we have to make.

All right, thanks for your support in advance.

Chris
