Story
Our son Louis James Rogers tragically and unexpectedly passed away on 18th June 2021, aged 22 months to the widely unknown and silent killer that is Sudden Unexpected Death in Childhood.
Louis was such an affectionate and beautiful little boy with a big personality. He loved cuddles, the swing in the park, his playhouse and splashing in puddles. He charmed all who met him with his sunshine smile and loveable giggling.
For those who are unaware, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is one of the most under-recognised medical tragedies of our
time. It occurs in children aged between 1 and 18. It is similar to SIDS (cot death) in that it occurs in otherwise healthy children, most often during sleep and has no known explanation.
Approximately 40 children every year are affected and it is the 5th leading category of death for 1-4 year olds, larger than fires, drowning and road casualties. While there is plentiful awareness and
information of the dangers of these high profile deaths, there is no
significant public awareness or information and currently no research in the UK into the causes of SUDC.
No longer can these children’s deaths be considered as collateral damage or acceptable under the guise of it being extremely rare or avoiding parental anxiety.
SUDC Foundation in the US have included Louis in an extensive testing and research programme to help to find answers for him. They have also offered us ongoing support during the most heart-breaking time of our lives. SUDC UK is a small charity, which receives no government funding.
We have set up this page to gratefully receive donations, which are passed directly to SUDC UK. This is the only charity in the UK dedicated to raising awareness and funding research to help make SUDC predictable and preventable.
If you are sponsoring us, or making a donation because you are touched by Louis’s story, we thank you so much for your kindness.
With all our love,
Christian, Julia & Thea xx
