As most of you know my wonderful little mum passed away in October 2020. 

Mum was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2020. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Unfortunately she was further diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2018 and underwent further surgery and radiation therapy. Again mum’s cancer returned in 2019 in her sternum and she underwent more surgery and was fortunate to avail of specialist radiation therapy in London. Mum’s cancer spread to her liver in May 2020. This was extremely aggressive and she sadly passed away in October that year. 

Despite mum’s endless battle over 6 years she never gave up fighting, planning and hoping to be around way into the future. She did everything she possible could to stay here with us for that little bit longer. 

She and I had often talked about things we’d do when she was better and one of them was the Cancer Focus Moonlight climb of Slieve Donard. Unfortunately between all of mum’s treatments over the 6 years and me being pregnant and having two baby’s in those years also we never got round to doing it. 

In January 2022 I decided to sign up and do it in memory of mum and to hopefully raise some money for a charity that helped her a great deal throughout her battle. Thankfully I’ve roped 5 of my aunts and uncles into doing it also. So next Friday we will attempt to climb Slieve Donard and down again in moonlight.
