My husband, Douglas is walking 1,300 miles (that's 2,030 kms!) - I'm walking "only" 800 miles - from Canterbury to Rome to raise money for & also raise awareness of homeless people in the North East. Setting off on 1st May, averaging 20 miles a day and hoping to reach Rome about 8th July, the walk is part of our project to set up an Emmaus Social Enterprise in Gateshead providing work & accommodation for the homeless to rebuild self confidence, develop their skill base & gain independence.
