Story

Dear Friends and Family,

We are deeply saddened to announce that our wonderful Mum passed away on 15th November, at home with her loved ones around her, after a two year battle with cancer. In true Christine style she was refurbishing one of the hotel bedrooms only two weeks beforehand, carrying on working as long as she could.

We will be celebrating Mum's life on Thursday 8th December at 12:30 at Beetham Hall (Milnthorpe LA7 7BQ), followed by a reception with light refreshments at Gilpin Hotel, from 13:30 to 15:30 (Crook Road, Windermere).

Mum's life was dedicated to hospitality and interiors, and to living life to the full, so please feel free to wear whatever colours you prefer, whether it be bright, black or white - and of course with a designer twist if you like.

At the reception we will have a memory table to celebrate both Chris and John’s lives, as we didn’t get the chance to do this for John due to the pandemic. We have lots of our own memories, but would love to gather other’s anecdotes and images together so that we can create a book of memories of Chris and John. They led such an incredible and full life, and touched so many people, and it would bring us great happiness to hear some stories of old as well as ones that we don’t know, and to see favourite photos. So if you’d like to share any fond memories, whether you’re family, friends, colleagues, or of course are part of Team Gilpin (past or present), there will be cards on the table to jot things down on the day, and a place to leave photos and stories that you’ve brought with you. If you're unable to join us on the 8th but would like to send something to this email or in the post, that would be lovely.

Family flowers only please; donations if desired to the wonderful Macmillan Cancer Support, who brilliantly does "whatever it takes to support people living with cancer".

With much love,
Barney, Ben, Zoë, Xiá, Alice & Freddie x
