Story
I had the misfortune to experience a stroke on the 14th February 2018, which resulted in me developing right sided paralysis, loss of swallowing and aphasia. I was an in patient in hospital for almost 5 weeks and made good progress. I then returned to my home with some modifications, to enable me to function to the best of my ability.
The support from my wife, family and friends, was instrumental in helping me to achieve my targets, and the Community Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Staff played a vital, and valuable role in my rehabilitation. The Stroke Association Team visited, and kept in touch with me to offer their help whenever I needed it.
With all of this support, and my determination, I did manage to participate in the 2018 Step out for Stroke event a few months after my stroke, which was an amazing achievement.
On 20th July, I want to participate in the next planned Step Out for Stroke event, and I aim to walk further than I did last year.
All proceeds will go to the Stroke Association, who provided me with such practical and emotional support after my event; and I would like others to be helped and be given the same support that I had, so that they too, can progress, and make the best of their disability just as I have.
Please give generously, as I know you will.
