Story

The British Tinnitus Association is the only national charity specialising in tinnitus support. Their vision is a world where no one suffers from tinnitus. They receive no money directly from the government, so are 100% reliant on the generosity and support of members of the public and grant-making organisations to be able to support people with tinnitus across the UK. All of their work is paid for by the generosity of supporters like you.

PLEASE READ.. IT IS WHY I AM DOING THIS AND ASKING FOR YOUR CASH, I KNOW IT IS A BIT LENGTHY.  THANKS  - Christine x

I woke up the morning after my Stepsons daughters 6 birthday October 2017 with this awful noise in my left ear. It was constant and intrusive and I couldn't escape it.

For a long time it seemed like that Birthday party was the last happy day I had. I would analyse everything about my tinnitus to see what I thought might be making it worse or better. Why me, what caused it? I had been given ear drops as initially there was wax build up around a gromet I still had in seven years after surgery. The drops failed to dislodge it and syringing made my tinnitus worse. Then I was given diazepam tablets, which at least let me sleep. For a while I only slept if I was drugged, drunk or exhausted.

Eventually I was referred to a tinnitus clinic and the nurse there simply let me pour out all the poison and scored me as catastrophic with regards to my management of it.

I'm still treated for anxiety that came on board with my tinnitus and the tinnitus clinic was such amazing help however over time I have habituated to the noise of my tinnitus and come to understand what triggers it.

If you don't have tinnitus it is hard to explain the issues that chronic tinnitus causes. I empathise more with my husband who has hearing loss.

I find that playing the cello and swimming are some of the things that I can do and my tinnitus doesn't bother me. They absorb me so much I can escape into them and my tinnitus doesn't follow. I want to raise as much as I can for research into Tinnitus and to help with tinnitus support. I have been in that bad place that chronic tinnitus can take you to and you can escape it.

Many, many thanks for any and all support!
