Story
For over 20 years now, we have been putting on a display of Christmas lights to bring cheer to our neighbourhood in Littlehampton, West Sussex; and to raise money for important causes. This year we will be raising money for Bowel Cancer UK. We often choose charities that are close to our hearts and that of our neighbours. One of our neighbours sadly was diagnosed with Bowel cancer.
Her journey started in March 2020 as many of us were starting to get to grips with the Covid-19 pandemic, she had noticed a change to her bowel movements, and increasingly felt a pain in her pelvis which continued until September. By this point her pain had become excruciating, and on consulting her GP, she was sent for an ultra sound and blood tests, but the results at this point were negative for Cancer.
After an MRI scan at Christmas, a 25cm tumour had grown on her lower bowel, which was sadly inoperable. She was then fitted with a colostomy bag, and underwent chemotherapy during her 60th birthday. The chemotherapy stopped having the desired affect, and after further hospitalisation for a blockage, was sent home to spend time with her family, and is in a lot of pain.
We ask you to help us raise money for Bowel Cancer UK, so that they can find better treatments, better solutions, to raise awareness, and to care for people going through this awful disease.
