Story

Hello there.

Thank you for looking through my page and hopefully reading the information below will highlight the wonderful work that Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children's Hospice do and get you to donate what you can to a wonderful charity.

A bit about me and my family. I am very lucky to have a wonderful wife, Elise, and two gorgeous children, Phoebe aged 5 and Isaac aged 1. When Isaac arrived into this world he had an eventful couple of months spent in hospital. Isaac was born 5 weeks early and, due to his size and breathing difficulties, he spent the first month of his life in a neo natal unit at Worcester Hospital. After numerous consultant meetings we found out that Isaac had a condition called hypopituitarism, a medical condition where the pituitary gland, which controls all the hormones in the body, wasn't present in Isaac's body. One of the side effects of Isaac's condition is if his stress levels get too high he has a high possibility of going into a coma and an injection of hydrocortisone is needed to help keep him stable. This happened a few times whilst we were down in Worcester and we decided as a family to move back to Blackpool for some family support.

Whilst in Blackpool we looked for some extra help to give us some respite for Isaac and allow us to spend some much needed time with Phoebe as well. Phoebe had seen a lot about her brother since he was born and while Elise and I were still getting our heads around Isaac's condition we wanted to also set some time to focus on Phoebe. This is when we found Brian House Children's Hospice. We applied and were accepted for respite. One day a week and two nights a month allowing us to relax knowing that Isaac was in a safe place and also allowing us both to spend some quality time with Phoebe. The work that they do covers a range of different illnesses and disabilities and they are truly fantastic from the activities they do with the children, the facilities they provide and the sensational staff that work there. They are always there with a smile and Isaac enjoys spending the time with them too. But their work doesn't just stretch to this. They are very inclusive and provide regular sibling days, in which they treat the brothers and sisters of the children that go to Brian House, where they take them to a range of activities such as plays, sports activities, restaurants the list is endless. They also have helped Phoebe to deal with Isaac's condition by providing care and counselling specifically aimed at her age group which has helped brilliantly for Phoebe.

As for other aspects of the Trinity Hospice they provide mental health services and adult counselling too. They also offer support for life limiting and life threatening illnesses for children and adults of all ages.

The work that they do is truly fantastic and having met a number of people who have children that go to Brian House and people who use other aspects of Trinity Hospice, they all say how brilliantly they operate and what a valuable service they provide to them and their loved ones.

I hope you can spare any amount you can to help support this amazing charity however big or small.

As for the event itself it is a 7.5km run under the illumination lights in Blackpool. If you want any information on the event just click the link below or feel free to get in touch with me.
