The Henley Half Marathon · 11 October 2009

SOS Children's Villages UK offers unsupported children worldwide the chance to grow up in a safe and nurturing family environment with education and healthcare. We work to reduce family breakdown and child abandonment and protect at-risk children affected by conflict and disaster.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Henley Half Marathon on Sunday 11th October. As this is my first half marathon I have been in training for 3 months and hope to complete it in 1hour 45-50 minutes. This will be quite a challenge!

More importantly, I have decided to run on behalf of SOS Children's Villages. SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest orphans and abandoned children's charity. Their aim is to give children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty a family, home, and community in a purpose built village. I have chosen this charity following my experience in India seeing and meeting similar children to those SOS Villages help. So far they have managed to help 78,000 children in 490 unique Children's Villages in 124 countries. Supporters of their work in the UK include Richard Attenborough, Stephen Hawking and Wayne Rooney. They do fantastic work for children who are in great need. Please find out more about what they do at their website.
