The stsCharity helps grateful patients, their friends and families give something back to their hospitals. With the generosity of donors and fundraisers the charity funds equipment and enhances hospital environments for patrients across South Tyneside, Sunderland and the North East.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer November 2020 and had a successful operation followed by chemotherapy treatment.  Unfortunately my type of cancer was an aggressive form and I have been informed that I have a recurrence of the disease which I will continue to fight to this day, it will however mean that I will require further chemotherapy treatment in the hope it keeps the disease in control.

In the meantime myself, family and friends would like to raise funds for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS foundation Trust to show our appreciation to everyone involved during my period of recuperation in hospital. Certain items or equipment are not readily available to the nurses when caring for there patients hence giving me the idea of raising funds to help them. Myself, family and friends would appreciate any donations to help our fund however big or small, it all adds up.

From the first posting of this page things have certainly moved on somewhat from a different direction and to be short and to the point I have now had 2 further operations carried out at South Shields to help prolong my own personal life expectancy for which I will be very grateful to the staff at South Shields (as well as Sunderland now) hospital for doing this for me.

Wow! just look at that total so far!! the target was £500.00, however with the generosity of all our friends and family this was surpassed with relative ease. Give yourself a pat on the back, the people who have donated thus far are all our friends and family connections, very well done to all involved.

I am now re-writing this as I would now like to see the fund shared a little further between South Shields Colorectal nurses, Sunderland Colorectal nurses, and to add to this  ....  South Shields NHS Macmillan Cancer support team (located at South Shields) who too have been very supportive of myself.

The fundraising day/walk is Sunday 14th November and the walkers completing the task will be meeting family and friends on there return to South Shields at South Shields FC, Mariners Park, NE34 9PH. Assuming it goes to plan the walkers should be back at the ground by approximately 3pm (15.00hrs) and it’s expected to last around 2-3 hours. As we meet and congratulate the walkers on there return it will be great to see everyone and try and put names to faces which will be fun to try and do. Refreshments will be available and will consists of some hot and some cold food to those turning up to meet loved ones etc. Get chatting, mingle,  introduce yourselves to one another even though you may not know anyone else but the person you are meeting, ask around who’s who? you’ll soon break the ice, after all and as I said we are all linked somewhere, somehow, you’ll be surprised. There are people coming from the East Midlands area of the UK (Birmingham), welcome and embrace them, they have come along way to support the fund, ....... again, don’t forget we are all linked. We are all there because we all care. During this time things will be happening where we will try and add to the fund for one last time effort,  with raffles etc as we progress through the couple of hours we have to give the fund that one last boost if we can.

Can I please point out that on the original making of this page it was expected that I would be doing the walk myself, but on advice however and admittedly being honest I probably could not have been able to do this so early after my recent operations. So !!!! staying on this note (and this was not my decision it was made without my knowledge), my wife Janice decided she will take my place and do the walk for me and I thank her from the bottom of my heart in doing this for me. In any event and no matter who is actually taking part in the trek, I am proud that I have somewhere down the chain a link to all the participants in some format, you all have that same link too !Proud! you bet I am, of each and everyone of you x.
