Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be taking part in the Big QMC Abseil to raise money for the 'BIG Appeal' for the Nottingham Hospitals Charity. The BIG Appeal is aiming to raise £4 million for new equipment for the Children’s hospital and Neonatal units as well as funding vital research and upgrading the parent facilities.
Our son Max was born 11 weeks early in November 2017, weighing a teeny tiny 1lb 14oz (850g). Max had a 9 week stay on the Nottingham City Hospital Neonatal Unit (6 of which were in a High Dependency incubator). During his stay, Max received the most wonderful care and support from the consultants, doctors, nurses and support staff. As well as caring for our tiny baby, staff on the unit spent a long time caring for my husband and myself and it’s safe to say we feel eternally indebted to them for their incredible care and support.
For the length of Max’s stay, I was lucky enough to be able to stay on site at the hospital to be near him as much as possible. At first I had a side room on the maternity ward and was later moved to the Hospital Hotel (funded by the Neonatal Unit) and then to the Neonatal Transitional Care rooms. Although it was difficult circumstances, being able to stay on site and be with Max as much as possible, really enabled me to bond with him and learn to accept the situation we were in. The Neonatal Unit became our home and the staff became our family.
Max was discharged from hospital 2 weeks before his due date and has come on leaps and bounds since then. At his most recent weigh in, he weighed a whopping 11lb 14oz - wow!!! We really do feel so incredibly lucky to have our precious boy home with us. He had almost his entire third trimester in the outside world when he should have been safe and sound inside. He’s a little champion and we are so lucky to have him home with us and so lucky to have received such wonderful treatment from the Nottingham City Hospital and the QMC.
As I am sure you can appreciate, this charity appeal is particularly close to my heart with the start that we had with Max. I’m hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity and would be very grateful for each and every donation.
As well as not giving myself much time to prepare for the abseil (I am going to be so scared on the day!!), I’ve also not left myself much time to fundraise, so please do share this page with anyone you think might like to donate.
Love and hugs
Christy, Simon and (Mighty) Max xxxx
