We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

Fifteen years ago, when I was Ten, my dad was diagnosed with severe muscle cancer, which we later found out would be terminal. When I was given the news I had no idea of the affect it would have on my life. Even at the age of Ten, I was very scared and it was hard to accept.

So as time went on and my dad started to deteriorate, which included him losing all his hair and going from Twelve stone down to Seven in the matter of weeks. It was hard not just for me to take but for everyone who knew him as he was a big icon in Merseyside.

My dad achieved a lot in life, from getting the bronze in the Moscow olympics, to being commonwealth champion, also being ranked No.2 by WBA. My dad's words was 'his best achievement in life was being a father to his 4 kids'.

Within a short space of time the cancer had spread all over my dads body. From first feeling unwell and discovering a small lump in his side to taking over the majority of the muscles. My dad got told that chemo would only pre-long his life by a matter of weeks. So he decided to only have the once dose so he could spend his last Christmas with his family and friends.

My dad then got admitted to Willow-brook Hospice on New years day. But on the 4th January, my dad lost his final fight and took his last breath at the age of 38 with my mum beside him.

I hope by doing the London Marathon and raising money for the awareness of this terrible disease. I can make a difference.
