Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. It is dedicated to my wonderful wee dad who we lost after several years of living with Parkinson's Disease. He fought hard right to the end, but it's a relentless, incurable condition and eventually the battle was lost. There are many others going through this hell and they need support too. Witnessing what it did to my own dad has made me even more determined to do what I can to carry on the fight and raise awareness. I believe a cure WILL be found but in the meantime, there are people needing our help.
A few years ago my family were given news that would change things forever. My dad was diagnosed with something called Parkinson's. We knew very little about this disease, but before we knew it, it had snuck up and 'stolen' my dad's ability to function as a normal human being. He had a shake, he couldn't walk the same, he eventually had to give up work, his car, his independance, his whole quality of life.
While he was still mobile enough to leave the house, he came across a support group, LGS (Lanarkshire & Glasgow South Parkinson's Group) who met at Newlands South Church on the first Friday of the month. The group were made up of Parkinson's patients, their families, carers and friends and they (along with my mum) gave my dad the friendship and the support he needed to live with his condition as best he could. There is still no cure for Parkinson's, it's a degenerative condition and sufferers rely on daily medication and various treatments to cope. The group provide weekly exercise classes, day trips, monthly meetings, social functions, but they rely mostly on public donations, so every penny that goes their way is put to good use. It's an extremely difficult condition to deal with, but without groups like these, life with Parkinson's would be even worse. They helped my dad and many others like him and I believe it's important to give them the opportunity to continue with the work they do by donating what we can. :)
Thank you in advance for your support.
