Ciorsdan’s Christmas Eve indoor cycling double marathon · 24 December 2020

Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the oldest and well known teaching hospitals. Our areas of specialisation include cancer, cardiovascular services, kidney and urology and dermatology. We are home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. With your help we can offer medical care that is second to none.

Story

I started all this in November with one mile or km (I am actually not sure which!)... but it took 3 minutes...

Wasn’t entirely sure what I’d be capable of, but I’m up to 33 miles today... which takes me over 2 hours and burns more than 1,000 calories (the little counter goes back to 0 and starts again!)

Running is not a great idea for me (especially in the cold) due to asthma and shin split issues, but I realise it’s much harder to run than cycle, so I have decided to do two cycling marathons on Christmas Eve (52 miles) instead of one...

52 is quite a leap from 33... so wish me luck(!) - I think it’s roughly the distance from London to Brighton...

What I am fundraising for

I work at Evelina London, which is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. There’s a really special fund called the Samaritan Fund, which allows our nurses, chaplains and other frontline staff to help patients in financial need. This December, for example, they have been putting together food packages supplying 5 days of meals to discharged patients at risk of food insecurity.

The fund is managed by a lead nurse and our head chaplain. It can help families with accommodation costs or support homeless patients being helped by the incredible health inclusion team.

Thank you for reading (and obviously I will be wearing a festive costume - expect photos!) Please give if you can, or encourage me if you can’t right now - totally understand. 🤶🏻❣️🐶
