Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As many of you will know, Claire was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in November 2011. It was a massive shock and a life-changing time. Neither Claire nor Sarah knew much about the disease or how it would impact on their lives, and they're still learning about it all the time. Having type 1 diabetes basically means that Claire's immune system has attacked and destroyed the cells that produce insulin. As a result, she no longer produces any insulin at all, which leads to increased blood glucose levels. This can have serious consequences if not treated. The main way Claire manages her diabetes is by injecting insulin several times a day. However, she soon realised that another way of managing it was to eat healthily and keep fit.

To ensure she sticks to this fit and healthy lifestyle, Claire has decided to set herself at least one physical challenge each year. This year it's the Great South Run. And as a thank you for all her support, she has kindly entered Sarah into it too. (Thanks Claire!) The event is taking place on 27th October 2013 and Bupa's chosen charity is Diabetes UK. The 10-mile route will be the longest distance either of them have run, so lots of training will be needed, as well as lots of your support.
