Manchester 100 2015 · 13 September 2015 ·
Just to let everyone know, my cycling is still on hold following my son's motorbike accident. He is still in intensive care, so I am afraid my time is taken up with him at the moment. My friend is cycling the Manchester 100 for me today. I will make sure I get my last 150 miles in to make the 500, but not until things are more stable here.
Riding is on hold for a while. I'm by my son's bedside in hospital as he fights for his life after a motorbike accident. I'll be back
As promised - here is the route we cycled to Anglesey.
Day 1 = Stretford to Rhyl : http://runkeeper.com/user/ClaireJC74/activity/628798070
Day 2 = Rhyl to Brynteg, Anglesey : http://runkeeper.com/user/ClaireJC74/activity/629605018
we met some lovely people along the way, too. I have no way of thanking those I don't know for their donations, but if you're reading this, THANK YOU! Every penny will hopefully one day have contributed to a cure or similar for Diabetes :-)
A bit of a summary, following my epic 114 miles cycle ride from Manchester to Anglesey over 2 days, to raise money and awareness for DiabetesUK. I'm wide awake after a good night's sleep. No blood sugar shenanigans during the night. Running higher than I'd like (I'll be reviewing this with my DSN on Monday) but no dips or peaks so it was a steady 12-14 all night (pump had a temp basal of 70%, so 30% reduction). I am very pleased I did the trip - it has given me confidence that Diabetes ISN'T stopping me from choosing what to do - even after 38 years, I still have moments where I doubt myself. It was nice to be able to take in the scenery and stop to take a look at things on the way here. Normally, I'm sat in a car and it's basically a case of "get there as fast as we can, unpack the car then we're on holiday" Thursday and Friday, the trip was part of the break. Now to rest, then start training for the next biggie - 106 miles 'Tour de Mon on 23rd Aug ....
So, today (7th August 2015) we completed the biggest of the challenges for the summer. Manchester to Anglesey. self funded, self organised. Me and my pal, Lucy, with my business partner, Barrie, there in the background the whole time in our support vehicle. Was feeling very emotional for the last few miles but I completed the 114 miles, hypo free. Now for a few days rest, then the training begins for the Tour de Mon, my next challenge. 106 miles around Anglesey. Won't be easy on these undulating roads!! GPS maps to follow when I'm home and on a computer, rather than my phone :-)
We made it to Rhyl! GPS to follow when I'm near a computer but I've covered 67 miles today and managed to stay in range with my blood sugars :-)
Well, I'm all prepped and ready. Banner on the van, bag packed, food and gels all packed, garmin charged, bike clean, gears serviced, brakes checked, new tyres on ... looks like a new bike, thanks Manchester Cyclexchange. Work done for the day so now for a nice tea then an early night!! See you in Chester, Lucy
...and then there were 3! One of the riders for Manchester to Anglesey has backed out as he has a cold so I'm riding solo to Chester, then meeting up with my friend who is doing the rest of the journey with me! I'm still riding, but going to have to be really switched on with diabetic control and nutrition as I'll be on my own for 30 miles .... onwards!!!
That brings total miles covered in big rides so far, to 232 miles to date, so nearly hit 50%, plus we'll be covering approx 115 next week, when we hit the roads and go to Anglesey
Another 56 miles covered today (31 July 15) on a ride out to Chester, then back home from Warrington. I had a big problem with a blood sugar of 30.4 at one point ... after riding 36 miles TO Chester so very odd, but back down to 5.8 now and home. That's me off the bike now until Thursday, which is day 1 of the Mcr to Anglesey. keep watching my updates
So far this year, we've ridden Manchester to Liverpool - 42.5 miles
http://runkeeper.com/user/ClaireJC74/activity/609915245
and Manchester to Blackpool - 65 miles (including home to the start)
http://runkeeper.com/user/ClaireJC74/activity/611289317
That makes 107.5 miles to now
There is Manchester to Anglesey on 6-7 August (120 miles)
75 miles around Anglesey 23rd August then
100 miles around Manchester 13th September 2015
That will make the total for the year in excess of 400 miles.
Please help me to make them count!
