Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As many of you may know my wonderful brother/cousin Matthew Ogilvie died on the 27 December 2013 at the age of 51. He had lived with our family since birth and as we were only four weeks apart in age, we were brought up together and had a very close bond, infact people thought we were twins. He was diagnosed with MS about thirteen years ago and for many years he continued to lead a normal life and just set about to do the things he had always done. MS however is a cruel disease and over the years his health did deteriorate. Towards the end of his life his mobility was very poor and his memory was failing. However he remained cheerful and did not let his friends or family know how he was really suffering. One of my memories was doing the BUPA 10km race with Matthew about about 16 years ago we ran the course together for most of the time and then I decided I would sprint ahead and finish first. However just as I was about to cross the line I saw Matthew surge ahead in front of me as you can imagine I was not too happy!! I do realise how fortunate I am in having good health and in being able to do all the things I love such as running, cycling, skiing and walking. Matthew also loved the outdoors and I can't imagine how the last five years of his life would have been when his legs just no longer wanted to work. By raising funds for the MS Socitey I hope that in a future there will be a cure for MS so other sufferers will be able to have a better quality of life and not have to suffer in the way that Matthew did. The Charity is also able to give support and assistance so that those diagnosed with MS can have a better quality of life. Please help me to reach my target by donating in memory of Matthew awondeful brother, father, husband and friend.
This will be my fourteenth marathon and second London Marathon. As many of you know every year I try and raise money for a charity and in the past have raised money for The British Heart Foundation, Dogs Trust, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Breast Cancer Care. I hope to complete the London Marathon in under four hours I would like to think it will be about 3 hrs 50mins but nothing is certain till you cross the line. My best time was 3 hrs 30 mins but unfortunately as I get older I get slower but I will do my best. I am training hard at the moment and have a few events before the big day. I will keep you updated on my progrss and many thanks for supporting me and raising funds in memory of Matthew. I will also be running in Edinburgh and Dundee Marathons this year so by making a donation you will be sponsoring me in all three events.
On Sunday the 2nd did my first event 10 mile Lasswade road run I did it in 1 hrs 20 mins . On Saturday I did my 24th park run only 26 to go till the end of the year and I will get my T shirt!!
Busy weekend on Saturday 15th I did my 25th park run in 23 mins 23 secs unfortunately forgot my bar code so it does not count so still 26 to do.
Today I did the Alloa half marathon in 1 hr 40 mins and 30 secs was hoping for just under 1 hr 40mins but just did not run fast enough plenty more in the tank for London.
20/03 Ran from my house along the cycle path to Leith and then got onto the Water of Leith walkway and ran home via Stockbridge 9 miles before work and it was very windy.
Just read this in my Marathon Pack from MS
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO HAVE MS?
"Get somebody to stay awake for 48 hours, then make them drink loads of coffee so they just can't sleep, put weights on their ankles, a pack on their back, make them wear two lots of rubber gloves. Tell them its for the rest of their life"

This week I have run to Leith, Arthur'sSeat and Cramond 10 miles each day before work and then a 12 hour day without a break it is hard work. Marathon always coincides with my busiest time at work but it is all for a good cause so I am happy to do it not the work but the running!!

Well less than a week to go to London marathon. Have now completed my training did a park run on Saturday 22 mins 20 sec 3 secs slower than my PB so I was pleased with that. Today I did a 10 mile hill run and now I have to rest., unfortunately I am not very good at that. i am really looking forward to London and will let you all know how I get on . the pressure is now on to get a good time whatever I will try my hardest and it will be worthwhile knowing with the help pf my friends I will have raised £1500 for such a deserving cause.
