In 2004 I started a new job at St Peter's School in York and met the one and only Wendy Shepherd. Head of Girls' Games. Initially we butted heads on more than on one occasion. I'd never met anyone like her. I soon realised how incredibly strong,witty and kind this amazing lady was. She had a knack for knowing when you needed help and saved me on numerous occasions, particularly with my son Harry. With her help I realised that I could be a mum and have a job if I so wish, she single handedly organised my wedding dress and even drove the school minibus to transport people to the reception meal!!

Nothing was ever too much trouble and I have so many happy/funny memories. It was impossible to ever think of Wendy as ill let alone suffering from a fatal disease. But that was Wendy, always strong and I will endeavour to run this race in her honour and show some of the strength she taught me about.

I think we all know someone who has suffered or has been taken from us because of Breast Cancer.
