Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and thank you so much for your support

My beloved dad Steve Kitcher - was diagnosed with a condition called Haemochromatosis approximately 12 years ago.  Haemochromatosis is one of the most common genetic disorders. It may affect up to 1 in 200 in the UK. If you have this condition your body absorbs more iron that it needs. The iron stays in your organs and can cause irreparable damage. As a result of his condition, my dad went on to develop diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol  and unfortunately passed away suddenly on 4th October 2014 following a heart attack. He was only 58. After speaking to the heart specialist at the hospital, we realized that heart disease can be a further complication that can be developed as a result of having Haemochromatosis - something we were completely unaware of. I am running the London Marathon in memory of my dad and to help raise awareness of this disease so that in the future people like my dad can be saved.
