Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those of you who know me, you know I am the person least likely to run the length of myself, never mind run 10k. I am hoping you will support me in this madness!!

Pankhurst100

I’ll be one of 100 women running on Sun 20 May 2018 in the Manchester 10k to raise money for The Pankhurst Centre (incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid).  Each of us is representing one year since the first women gained the vote in 1918.  We have been asked to raise at least £100 each and I'm hoping you'll be able to help me raise much more.  (Is £10 or £20 for 10k a reasonable ask??  Even more if you can!!)

Funds raised will help to preserve and improve the museum and its gender equality initiatives and will also benefit Manchester Women’s Aid that supports women and children affected by domestic and sexual abuse.

The Women’s Social and Political Union was founded in the former home of Emmeline Pankhurst at 60-62 Nelson Street, Manchester, now The Pankhurst Centre. This is the real building where a historical event happened that defined a pivotal change in our ideas of citizenship. Emmeline was a single parent at the time, she had a part-time job, and she started a revolutionary movement. This is an inspirational story that needs to be told, yet the Museum is currently staffed by volunteers and receives no public funding, relying purely on donations.

It will take more than £3m to transform the Centre into an enhanced museum attraction with space for school groups to learn about the suffragettes - and ensure a permanent home for the suffragette legacy.
