East Sussex WRAS was established as a voluntary group in 1996, but founder Trevor Weeks has been rescuing wildlife since 1985. The charity was set up to provide a front-line rescue & hospital service for people finding wildlife casualties as well as offering advice and information.

Story

Our beautiful , courageous, caring , loving Mum, Nana and Wife passed away on the 16.2.16 after a long ,hard battle with cancer . She was brave , and a fighter right up to the end . She always thought of others and had a wicked sense of humour which shone through even when she couldn't speak . She will leave a big gap in the lives of those who knew her. ❤️

Last year Monica was awarded the British Citizen Award (BCAv) for all of her volunteer work over the years.

East Sussex WRAS named a new wing at the rescue centre The Monica Russell Orphan Rearing Unit in her honor for all of her hard work, commitment and dedication to WRAS and wildlife where she has been described as a WRAS Trustee, a Chairperson, Rescuer, carer, fundraiser, cleaner, cook and friend.

She is at peace now and heaven has gained another angel ✨
