Mind in Somerset works towards a society where individuals who have mental health problems are accepted and included. We actively promote better mental health through all our projects and services and have a holistic approach to well being and recovery.

Story

Thank you for visiting my Just Giving Page!

'Go Wild, Stay Well' is a project run by Mind TWS in partnership with Somerset WildlifeTrust (SWT), the National Trust and Exmoor National Park. The aim of the project is to support those with mental illness through the use of various 'green therapy' schemes.

‘Green therapy’ is a simple concept. It incorporates anything from a quick walk and chat in the park, to gardening or allotment projects, to a jolly good hike in the Quantocks. It uses something that is available on our doorsteps, with no unpleasant side-effects, to provide preventive and therapeutic intervention for those suffering from mental distress.

For me, this project makes sense. Whilst it may not offer the 'cure' - because often there is no 'cure' for mental illness - it allows people who are isolated and suffering alone an opportunity to be 'part of something', to meet like-minded people and to make proactive steps in their own well-being.
