Story

In 2019 I (Karen) decided to do the West Highland Way, this was originally planned for April 2020 but due to Covid it got postponed a few times. So far we have raised £1160 which has already gratefully been received by The Archie Foundation. We have now rescheduled for April 2022 and want to top up the money donated so far. Never
did we think it would take 2 years, but we are determined to get this done!

The reason we are doing this is because, one evening while I was visiting my grandbabies in the Neo Natal Ward
Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, this was the night that changed my life forever and became a Glama for the first time.

My daughter Lauren had given birth twins, not only was I lucky enough to get twin grand babies but I got one of each.

Lucas Charlie and Sophia Rose arrived on the 22nd August 2019, they were tiny little bundles 7weeks early. They are now 20 months and absolutely thriving. Lucas weighing just 3lb 12oz and Sophia weighing 4lb 4oz, Sophia was the bigger twin even though she was twin 2, Lucas however was a bit smaller and had some trouble breathing, his lungs were slightly under developed and was unable to get oxygen fully into his lungs therefore needed to go straight into the Neo Natal Unit where he was put into a very sophisticated incubator in the high dependency ward (these cost £8000 each) this was when it hit me, the noise of the machines, the babies fighting for their lives with the help of this equipment and seeing the pain and worry in the parents faces. I realised I wanted to do something to give something back, this was my opportunity to give a massive thanks for helping Lucas and Sophia and all the other tooties.

Hello, my name is Claire, I feel so blessed to have gained a beautiful niece and nephew and can’t thank the Neo Natal Unit enough for all the care they have provided to them.

Hi, my name is Teresa. When Karen told us she was planning on doing the walk to help raise funds for a new incubator for Aberdeen Maternity Hospital Neo Natal Unit, I jumped at the chance to join her. I had the very special privilege of visiting Karen's grandchildren in the Neo Natal Unit just after they were born. I saw how amazing the unit is, the professional and friendly nurses and all the help that goes into a premature baby’s new life.

Hi, my name is Kati. As a few people know I am an avid walker and love to do work for charity,

The twins and some other family members are meeting us on the last day and the children will also walk the last 5 miles with us so they can be a part of it all. It would be great if you could show us your support by making a donation.

We will have videos and pictures along the way so you can follow our progress .

Thanks for all your support
