The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UKs charities.

Story

NEC UK is the first charity in the UK exclusively for the
condition Necrotising Enterocolitis (NEC).

UK Charities General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones like ours NEC UK, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. This impacts all sectors of NEC UK’S Services.

NEC UK is a Parent Led Charity organisation and primarily offers
support to families affected by the condition at any stage of their journey.
In addition to family support our objectives are to support further research and studies into NEC, to raise awareness of NEC while also developing good relationships with experts, care providers and other organisations to give NEC a platform to be heard and improve the outcomes for babies affected by Necrotising Enterocolitis and their families.

The NEC UK Charity is close to me and my family , Our Son
Charlie developed NEC in 2016 at just 5 weeks old. He now lives life with
ongoing complications as a lasting result of NEC. Charlie has Short Bowel Syndrome, Acute Kidney damage, Anaemia and a history of Liver disease. Due to the damage caused by Nec and multiple surgeries Charlie’s life is dependent on a cocktail of medication multiple time a day and 15hrs of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) given intravenously via a central line in his chest, this is to enable him to have the best chance at life and to ensure his body is receiving the vital nutrition he needs to develop and grow.

Nobody quite knows the lasting effects of NEC on the body and brain. That is why it is vitally important we continue to support Research to develop a better understanding of Necrotising Enterocolitis.  My hope is that one day there will be a world without NEC...

NEC is rare in the general population of babies but more common in
neonatal units and is diagnosed in 1 in 250 live births.

NEC is Serious

You may be surprised to learn that more babies die from NEC than all of childhood Leukaemia

1 in 4 babies diagnosed
with NEC will require surgery

3 in 5 babies that has surgery for NEC will require an
additional surgery

3 babies in the UK sadly die from NEC every week

UK Babies will still develop NEC, NEC Does Not
Stop Because of COVID-19!
