Sands supports anyone affected by the death of a baby, works in partnership with health professionals to try to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and funds research that could help to reduce the numbers of babies dying and families devastated by this tragedy.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking on the challenge of the Birmingham Half Marathon on 20th October 2013, in memory of my friends' beautiful son, Benjamin, who was born sleeping on 26 November 2012.

Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths) have been a great support to Juliette and Matt and I wanted to take this opportunity to raise much needed funds and awareness for this amazing charity. Sands supports parents and campaigns to raise awareness to reduce the number of babies born still each year: 17 babies are born still or die shortly after birth every day in the UK and this number is far, far too high.

Please note, I do not intend to break any records but I will endeavour to attain a fantastic Personal Best! Well, to be honest, whatever time I complete this half marathon in will be my Personal Best as I have never done anything like this in my life before!! The last time I did any running was 20 years ago, when we had to do cross-country at school (and I absolutely hated it!). I used to have to carry my inhaler with me and I'd used it about 10 times before I got round the first bend!

This certainly won't hold me back this time and I'll complete the half marathon on my hands and knees if I have to as I'm doing this for Benjamin and he'll get me through it.

Thank you so much for sponsoring me! Cx
