Meningitis Research Foundation is a charity driven by a passionate mission to prevent the devastating impact of meningitis. Founded by individuals whose lives were profoundly affected by meningitis, we are dedicated to enabling positive change by uniting people and knowledge to save lives.

Story

Hi all, we completed the Three Peaks in 20 hours 46 minutes; a few trials and tribulations – such as taking a somewhat precarious shortcut down Ben Nevis and getting slightly lost going up Scafell Pike in the dark – but we got there in the end!  I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for donating online it has helped so very much, we are all very grateful.

Thanks again

Andrew

Hello all,

Myself, Jon, Jonathan and Mark will be doing the Three Peaks Challenge on the 24th/25th July.  We will climb the three highest peaks in the (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike andSnowdon) in 24 hours.  We are raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of Claire Louise Cheney, the young lady in the picture, who sadly died age 17.  Please read what her parents have written below about Claire’s short life.

Thanks.

Claire was born in Northampton, second child to John and Wendy, sister to Nicola and Daniel.  As a baby Claire was the same as any other, very inquisitive and a love of any animal. She first went to school at Vernon Terrace, progressing toCliftonvilleMiddle Schooland on to theNorthamptonSchoolfor Girls.  Still with her love of animals she was later accepted toMoultonCollegewhere she would study small animal care.  Obviously there was only one job for her – that was to become a vet. Claire’s hobbies or any free time she had was to go horse riding, cinema, meals out and of course parties. After only being at college for a few months Claire was introduced to a vet who worked at Rhodes Vetinary surgery. Seeing the work Claire was doing impressed him enough to offer her a job as a trainee vetinary nurse.  Claire was over the moon; all her dreams come true, doing a job she loved and being paid for it.  Only after a few short months Claire was taken ill with what seemed to be a very bad case of FLU?!!!.  That was November 23rd 1995; five days later Claire lost her fight to Meningitis Septicaemia.  The importance of awareness is crucial, within a matter of hours Claire went from being poorly to being in a coma – its that quick.  PLEASE help us to fight this disease and find a cure and to promote awareness.

Yours sincerely
John and Wendy Cheney
