Mount Everest Base Camp Trek · 30 March 2020

Empowering young people and adults to overcome drugs, alcohol, and mental health issues so they can live their lives more fully. In addition, we offer specialist services for both family members impacted by others’ substance misuse and for veterans.

Story

In March 2020 I will be flying to Nepal and travelling to the Himalayas to reach to the base camp of Mount Everest over the course of 14 days. This will involve 200 miles of trekking, up to heights of over 5,500m.

I will be doing this trek in hopes of raising as much money as I can for The Matthew Project, which is an organisation based in Norwich who support vulnerable young people and adults across the East of England. Having previously volunteered for The Matthew Project, I have seen first hand how their work impacts and helps the lives of others in need. Their work helps to benefit mental and physical health, with their main focus on reducing alcohol and/or substance misuse, providing employment support and improving individual wellbeing.

"Our work benefits a wide range of people from a wide range of different backgrounds. We help these beneficiaries to achieve better physical and mental health, better relationships with others, and overall better quality of life, along with access to more opportunities. As well as the individuals themselves, our work also creates social change and improvements to the local community in a range of different ways. These include improved family relationships and friendships, reductions in drug/alcohol misuse, reduced strain on local health and wellbeing services, reductions in rates of offending, and improved skills and employment outcomes for our service users, all of which help to regenerate the local community." - The Matthew Project
