Story
In July 2018 my mum was taken to hospital with suspected sepsis. After a few days we were given the awful news that mum had Ovarian Cancer. She was successfully treated with chemotherapy and surgery and was given the all clear in February 2019.
Unfortunately in July 2019, we were given the devastating news that the cancer had spread and although chemotherapy would help, it would not take away this awful disease.
Mum then spent the next 8 weeks in hospital, longing to return home and see her beloved beach and sea. In September she got her wish and she spent the next 2 weeks at home with all her family around her, with the amazing help from the District Nurses.
Sadly she deteriorated very quickly and mum wanted to spend her last days at Cornwall Hospice in St Austell.
Mum spent an amazing 10 days at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice, where the staff looked after not only my mum, but the whole family. The relief we all felt, knowing that mum was safe and being well looked after, meant so much to us as a family. We all felt such clarity after speaking with the highly trained staff. We couldn't change the outcome but the road was clearer.
I cannot thank this place enough for the continued support not only medically, but emotionally too. Which is why, we as a family have decided to do this cycle ride together, in the memory of my fantastic, caring, funny, amazing mum.
