We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

Katie was 24 years when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer in November 2011.  Shortly afterwards she was told that the cancer had spread to her liver and lungs.  After  having bowel surgery, Katie underwent 6 and a half weeks of chemo-radiation every day. A follow up scan  revealed the treatment had not been successful, the cancer had progressed dramatically and Katie was diagnosed as a palliative care patient.

Katie continued with chemotherapy to try to stop the cancer from spreading and increase the time she had left, and she received the best care from Willow Brook Hospice during this time.  Sadly, Katie passed away in January 2013.  Despite her nightmare battle with cancer, it allowed her to see life in a different, more positive light and encouraged others to enjoy life and make the most of every opportunity.  Everyone should be inspired by the mantra Katie lived by:  "When it rains look for rainbows, when it's dark look for stars".
