May Bank Holiday Weekend 100 km walk

May Bank Holiday Weekend 100 km walk · 23 April 2013
Dear friends far and wide!
I have made it back to the city after a major endurance test that I have to say I definitely underestimated in terms of difficulty, walking with about 20 others from different churches in Hastings over the course of the 3 days.
The first day, walking from Canterbury to Ashford, was beautiful, along some of the North Downs Way, and through several bluebell woods and the pretty village of Chilham. But I forgot to drink plenty of water and by the time I arrived in Ashford I was in a bit of a state! Wonderfully there was a bath in our Bed and Breakfast and I recovered with 2 hot baths and a good sleep. The second day, to Rye, was the longest-24 miles- and I almost didn't make it. If it wasn't for the steady encouragement of the 2 friends I was walking with (who had done Kilimanjaro the year before) then I wouldn't have made it.
My many foot blisters tell some of the story....so I had to take the next morning off, rescued from sleeping on the floor of Rye Baptist church by my cousin Georgina who lives in Camber, who dropped me off at a meeting point 10 miles into the walk, so that I could rest in the morning and finish the walk into Hastings through the Firehills last Monday afternoon.
Even though I didn't manage the whole thing, I still walked further than I have ever done before, so it is still a PB! Walking is going to be difficult for some time to come, but it was all worth it. Spring was absolutely delightful to behold in this beautiful country of ours.
And I am delighted to see that I have already raised more than 50% than I had anticipated- thank you all SO much for your wonderful generosity towards the children and families with disabilities in Nepal.
I am helping to raise money for a special project with International Nepal Fellowship:
Education scholarships for children with disabilities, and children of parents who have a disability, to help them overcome long term poverty.
I have seen first hand how these children and their families affected by disability struggle with poverty and discrimination, so I am really keen to help them by giving them a chance to have an education.
Thank you so much for reading this and for your donation in advance!
God bless,
Clare
