British Gas Great North Swim 2011 · 18 June 2011 ·

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

We became friends through swimming and decided to set ourselves a challenge and raise money for good causes at the same time.

The Great North Swim is 1 mile in Lake Windermere this coming June.

Poppy is my friend's niece and an inspiration. Each penny donated will be fully appreciated with every gruelling stroke.

I will leave it up to Poppy's parents Brian and Lisa Guilder to tell you why its a minor effort in comparison with the cause.I nicked the following off www.poppyfieldsappeal.co.uk "Our beautiful daughter, Poppy Guilder, was diagnosed with a large brain tumour in March 2004, when she was only 14-months old & has endured years of treatment with a smile on her face. We are grateful for every moment we have with our amazing daughter, who sparkles so much that she can light up a room full of people. Poppy really is a little star!
As a thanks for the excellent care that Poppy has received at Birmingham Children's Hospital 'Poppy Fields' was set up. To date we have raised over £110,000 & are continuing to support the hospital in its quest to save the lives of children with brain tumours.
Thank you for supporting our fundraising, for helping us to thank the people who saved our daughter's life & for caring."
