Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In February 2016 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I remember the moment vividly, it all seemed very surreal. My husband David was with me, and helped me to make sense of the news and our next steps to help combat this awful disease. The hardest part was finding the right words to tell our young daughter, and answering that very difficult question of "Are you going to die Mummy?". I was very fortunate to be able to answer with a fairly confident, "I'm not going anywhere yet", I appreciate that I'm one of the lucky ones.
We had already planned to move house and location prior to my diagnosis, and made the decision to continue with our move from Oxfordshire to West Yorkshire as we were determined that the Big C was not going to stop our plans. This meant having my operations in Oxford, and remaining treatment at Jimmys (St James Hospital) in Leeds. It also meant that we lost our support network of friends from our hometown, and knew no-one when we moved to our new place.
Luckily I learned of this amazing local charity, which provides holistic therapies and support for people affected by and living with cancer. They were a lifeline to me at a time when I was coming to terms with this devastating news and going through Radiotherapy treatment, and provided friendship, support & understanding of our situation.
Last year I was inspired to give something back to this well deserving charity, and organised the first "Withens Welly Walk" to help raise much needed funds and we raised an amazing £1,631.71.
We're hoping that this years "Withens Welly Walk" will raise a similar or even higher amount, to enable Keighley and Airedale Cancer Support to continue providing this essential service for people like me.
I'm very aware that mine is just one of many stories of people affected by Cancer. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of the work that this charity does, and to provide a time of reflection for loved ones while enjoying the fresh air!
We would love to see you at the event which is on the 10th November 2018 if you are able to attend (please see our website for details: http://www.keighleyairedalecancersupport.co.uk/start.asp), or alternatively please feel free to make a donation to this worthy cause.
