Channel Relay Swim · 29 July 2022

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Some of my friends will know that many years ago I took part in a channel relay swim at the tender age of 15 with a group of pals from Hythe.  I remember it clearly; the hours of training; the fabulous team shell suit (!), fear of swimming in the dark, incredible sea sickness and the sheer joy of finishing the challenge.

My love of swimming has never left me … so… I thought, what better way to prepare for my 50th year than to do ANOTHER channel relay swim with another group of pals. I am really not sure whether my faded memory of the last time is a hindrance or a help ?! I look forward to hearing from some team members from the last time!!

This time I am swimming  for an amazing charity - Aspire - who provide practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury, supporting them from injury to independence. I have been lucky enough to meet and swim with an inspirational lady who was supported by Aspire and am delighted to be swimming for such a fantastic cause.
