L'Arche builds communities with people who have learning disabilities. Together with assistants, they live in ordinary houses, with choice in and access to work, therapy and local resources. The nine L'Arche communities in England, Scotland and Wales are founded on Christian values, also welcoming people of other faiths and none.

Story

We have chosen L'Arche Inverness as one of the charities we'd like people to support in celebration of our wedding. I spent a very fruitful nine months living in Braerannoch, one of the L'Arche houses, where I made some dear friends and learned a lot about living in community, which I hope will stand me in good stead for married life!

The community is currently trying to raise around £600 to buy some picture symbols software. Picture symbols are used to help people without much verbal language to communicate better. Buying the software will mean that the same symbols can be used consistently across the community, and also used on newsletters, timetables and personal care plans to help to make them accessible to people who cannot read.
