Designability is a national charity that enables disabled people to live with greater independence. We create and provide products that give people the opportunity to live the life they choose.

Story

A small local charity named Designability do incredible things. They have designed and built electric wheelchairs, known as Wizzybugs, specifically for young children with various conditions which can go almost anywhere !

My lovely friend James Woodward aka Woody aka Sig has been raising funds, in memory of his dad - Bob, for Wiizzybug wheelchairs which can help children living with cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, spina bifida or muscular dystrophy, as well as children with amputations or a rare developmental delay affecting their ability to walk. Some children use a Wizzybug from as young as 14 months and may use it up to 5 years old. Each Wizzybug has up to three lives - the original recipient and then up to two ‘follow on’ users after refurbishment. £5,000 covers the build of one Wizzybug and provides use by up to three children.

Here's a short video of Daisy showing off her Wizzy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9bEmVHE3zs

So - I thought I would do my bit and take on the Tour du Mont Blanc: a long-distance walk in Europe. It circles the Mont Blanc massif, covering a distance of roughly 170 kilometres with 10 kilometres of ascent/descent and passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy and France. It is a whopper of a walk taking 11 days with some days being a knee destroying 20km+ with 1000metre climb and descent. Eek!

In the last two years I have had two big knee ops to stop them dislocating so now at least I can try this without fear of falling off a big mountain (in theory anyway!).

If you can help it will really motivate me to keep going as well as donating to an incredible cause (every penny donated will go to the charity - all costs will be paid for by me).

Thank you!
