Cystic Fibrosis Trust - Royal Parks Half Marathon In Aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust · 7 October 2012 ·
Hello, thank you for visiting my page.
As you are no doubt aware, I am not much of an athlete but have somehow signed up for the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 7th of October. I’m sure you’d like to know why.
In February, my dear friend Thalias 4 week old daughter – Abigail – was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable genetic disease that clogs organs with a thick sticky mucus that inhibits an individuals capacity to digest food and sometimes even breathe. Thalia and Matt were both unaware that they were carriers of the Cystic Fibrosis gene so this was a huge shock to them and their loved ones.
Thalia, Matt and big sister Jessica have showed enormous strength and optimism, and the care and support they have received from the CF ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital has been fantastic.
I lost someone special to me to Cystic Fibrosis nearly 20 years ago, but luckily for Abigail times have moved on significantly and this is due to pioneering research into genetics and best practice in medications and treatments. The CF Trust has dramatically improved not just the length of life but the quality of life of those with CF. According to Socrates “not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued”.
Clare Rawlings, Sherrie Payne and I have been friends with Thalia for longer than we will openly admit, and to show our support and love for this special family we have decided to run/complete (Thalia is running too) the Royal Parks Half Marathon. We are raising money for the CF trust to improve the life and future for precious little Abigail.
My knees are protesting, but I have started training for this mission and any money you donate to this wonderful cause will ensure that I have no way of backing out!!!
Many Thanks
Donna
