40th Year Challenge

Bedford Half Marathon 2019 · 1 September 2019 ·
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This year I wanted to set myself a huge challenge to achieve In my 40th year.
I started running last year when a superwoman (Helene Bolton) and her husband (Bob Bolton) started a community running group in Maulden. The first thing that struck me about the group was how diverse and inclusive it was, with Helene supporting and encouraging everyone in the group from running virgins like me to people who run with the aid of a walking stick and signing to those with hearing impairments. HLB Runners has gone from strength to strength and is now an integral part of our small community with regular runs, social events and awards for things like ‘the best finish’ (see above photo).
I have worked hard to be able to be fit enough to run regular 5k’s and last year with the support of HLB Runners and my sister (Natalie Carr) completed my first 10K event. Running a half marathon will not be easy for me, but I am lucky enough to be able to do this on behalf of Access Bedford who work with people with hearing impairments in order to make Bedford a more accessible community. Their work can be seen first hand every week at Bedford Parkrun where one of their volunteers (Helene included) sign the announcements and instructions prior to every race. This is a local charity that does huge things on a small budget, you only need to read the testimonials on their website to see the significant difference the work that they do makes to peoples lives. As Helene works for Access Bedford, it is also an opportunity for me to give a little something back to her by way of a thank you for all of the support and encouragement she has given me over the last Year.
Paul Geary, even though he is a seasoned runner and will probably feel as though he is walking alongside me, has kindly signed up and agreed to run with me for support. For this I am truly grateful.
Thank you so much in advance if you are able to make a donation, it will really spur me on through the long, cold training runs as well as provide financial support for the fantastic service that Access Bedford provide.
