Story

Hello all!

I have been granted an incredible opportunity to make a real difference by working with VSO for 12 weeks in Malindi, Kenya and will be departing on the 14th October 2013.

VSO ICS is designed to bring about lasting change for poor communities and as a volunteer I will get the opportunity to contribute directly to this change.

Alongside other UK volunteers I will be teaming up with Kenyan volunteers to tackle some of the problems facing local communities. The 12 week project in Malindi focuses on key development issues but primarily the theme will be on education in particular working alongside schools and community based rehabilitation services to improve access to education for children and young people with disabilities.

VSO is the worlds leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. VSO's high impact approach involves bringing people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all.

VSO ICS is a once in a lifetime volunteering opportunity backed by the UK Government. The programme has been fully funded by DFID (Department for International Development) who run the International Citizen Service (http://www.ics-uk.org.uk/about/). However, as part of my participation I am required to fundraise a minimum of £800 prior to my departure in October. Therefore the money raised will enable as many young people as possible to volunteer on projects in the developing world and help fight poverty.

So amid my fundraising, a donation no matter how small or large would be greatly accepted and will be making a real difference.

Thank you for your support, I will keep you updated!
