The Group has over 45 riders and vaulters, aged between 5 and 65 with a wide range of disabilities. During lessons clients learn to work with the horses and volunteer helpers as a team, providing exercise, educating, building confidence and raising self esteem. It's what you can do that counts

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

18.08.2022. I have now completed the cycle from Caen to Nice, approx 900 miles and 60,000ft of climbing. An incredible experience made tougher by the intense heat, often late 30's and over 40 on two afternoons. Dunking our heads in water troughs to cool down became normal! I'm now home and have picked up covid so have gone from extreme exercise to doing nothing and the ponies are getting another week off!  Thank you so much to all you generous folk out there who have donated, I will keep the page open a little bit longer as I really hope to reach the £3000 target.

Berwickshire Group RDA are hoping to be able to provide carriage driving opportunities in the very near future.  To be able to do this we need to raise funds for a wheelchair accessible carriage, ramps and harness.

I am a volunteer and a trustee with the group & I am planning to complete a sponsored cycle in August from one end of France to the other. The route is just over 900 miles and will be completed in 2 weeks.

The Channel to the Med Challenge starts at the northern French coast near Caen, heading south through the Loire Valley, Puy-de-dome, and Provence before finishing in Nice. There will be some big climbs on the way including Mont Ventoux and Gorge de Verdon.

Carriage driving has many of the same benefits as riding; it helps to improve coordination and balance while proving relaxation through the rhythmic movement.   The carriages are especially designed to carry wheelchairs if necessary and every disabled driver is accompanied by a trained coach and volunteers.  Participants are taught to drive and may be eligible to compete in RDA competitions where there is a suitable class for them.
