Story

Olney! Myself (Hannah who was born and raised in Olney) and Alina (Fundraising Engagement Manager for CLIC Sargent who also lives in Olney) are inviting you to take part in a town-wide fundraising event to raise vital funds for CLIC Sargent starting 4th February 2021 - which marks World Cancer Day - and the rest of February by collectively (virtually, of course) walking/running/skipping/cycling (any way you want to move!) 2021km.

After my own (Hannah) cancer diagnosis aged 23 in 2019, I was fortunate enough to receive invaluable support from CLIC Sargent in the form of financial aid, a designated Social Worker, and the provision of an online community. Now recovered, I have decided to help in any way I can to ensure CLIC Sargent is able to continue supporting children and young people (and their families), like me, who are diagnosed with cancer. And, as you will know, this support is needed more than ever as the pandemic continues and cancer services and treatment are restricted.

Now, as an official volunteer, Alina and I have been working together to plan a huge fundraising challenge that can bring Olney together (virtually) in a way that raises awareness of childhood and young adult cancer on World Cancer Day, raises vital funds for CLIC Sargent, and, importantly, lifts our spirit, drawing on our wonderful, supportive community, during a time filled with anxiety, grief, and uncertainty.

To do that, we have decided to get Olney moving! As a town, we are asking that you move (run/skip/walk/any way you can think of!) as many kilometres as you can, as part of your daily exercise outside or in the comfort of your own home/garden, from 4th February (World Cancer Day) and for the rest of the month, to help us achieve our collective goal of 2021km. We shall be tracking our movement via our Strava Club https://www.strava.com/clubs/CLICTeamOlney so please do become part of our Club and begin logging your movement from the 4th.

To raise this money we are asking that you invite sponsorship for your chosen movement activity or donate a certain amount yourself for your own personal challenge. For example, you might commit to running a given amount, on your treadmill, over the month and ask for sponsorship. Or, you might decide to track your daily walk around Olney and donate 10p for every km you walk over the month! If your situation does not allow for running/walking/skipping/etc., indoors or out, you can help in equal measure, by making a financial donation via this JustGiving page.

Our ultimate goal is that, as a town, we reach 2021km and raise £202.10 for CLIC Sargent, starting on World Cancer Day (4th) and finishing on 28th February 2021. We would be so thankful if you would help us to achieve this goal, by logging your activity via our Strava Club: https://www.strava.com/clubs/CLICTeamOlney and donating via this page.

Thank you so much Olney!

With love,

Hannah and Alina :)

(Side Note: We recognise that we are in a National Lockdown and fully support the governmental restrictions and guidance. Please carry out this fundraiser in line with the guidelines - exercise once per day, and only alone, with one other person, or your own household).
