Story
My name is Suzanne Thi Hien Hook, I am an orphan from the Vietnam War and am going to embark on a challenge that will push me on many different levels. I am going to be climbing the highest mountain in Indochina for Allambie Orphanage. Mount Fansipan which is over 12,000ft High is also the highest mountain in Vietnam and is found in the far north of Vietnam, very close to the Chinese boarder in a place called Sapa.
All my friends know that I do not like walking or any form exercise! I live in high heels, I hate flat shoes and trainers. I love food that is deep fried, full of fat and cream and my weakness is a big bowl of crispy roast potatoes cooked in goose fat yummy!
To climb the mountain will take 4 days - 2 days traveling and 2 days to climb Fansipan Mountain, in fact I have to sleep on the mountain one night in a tent to reach the top!!!!
Why am I doing this, I set up Allambie Orphanage Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) in 2010 and have been running Allambie orphanage for 7 years. Allambie orphanage is a UK registered charity. The Orphanage was set up to help orphaned/disadvantage children and give them an education and a safe place to live. 100% of the money that is donated goes directly to the children; there are no wasteful administration or management fees. I do not take a wage, my work is voluntary.
I want to make sure that we can carry on helping lots more Orphaned/disadvantage children for many years to come and provided the children with the basic necessities of food and shelter and enhancing their education. Allambie is also providing a stable family environment which has sadly been missing in their lives. Allambie is and always has been as unique as the children who call it home.
