Story

We are volunteers and supporters of The Hackney Pirates, and we believe passionately that all young people should have the opportunity to experience adventures in their learning.

On the Sunday 21st of October we are taking on the challenge of climbing a combined total distance of 4809 meters in just 4 hours - equivalent to the height of the Mont Blanc. The ascent will be take place at The Hackney Wick Boulder Project, who are kindly hosting this fundraising event.

You can get involved in two ways, by making a donation and by joining our crew of climbers contributing to the total distance scaled on the day. Your donations will go towards launching The Hackney Pirates’ 2nd ship, a new learning space in Haringey.

To join our climbing crew and help us reach the summit of Mont Blanc, please email anthony@hackneypirates.org or nogiermarine@gmail.com. Crewmates from beginner to expert level of climbing experience are all welcome, and you will be assigned routes and distance targets based on your level of ability.

The Hackney Pirates is an innovative education charity working with young people aged 9-13 to develop literacy, confidence and perseverance. In our unconventional learning spaces, local young people work with our crew of dedicated volunteers on reading and creative writing projects. The writing Young Pirates produce is then published as books of stories and poetry, studio recordings and films screened in a local cinema. You can find out about the impact we are having and hear from some of our Young Pirates via this link: http://www.hackneypirates.org/our-impact
