Oxford Breast Buddy Group (OBBG) is an Oxford based group supporting anyone affected by breast cancer. All of our group members have personal experience of breast cancer and we aim to provide support and practical help to those who have had, or are undergoing, treatment for breast cancer.

Story

Ishaan, A-level student in Oxford decided to hike Kilimanjaro in aid of "breast cancer survivorship". He chose the challenge to support breast cancer as he was inspired by his parents who are NHS doctors and his mother works with breast cancer patients. He had heard several stories of women affected by breast cancer; stories full of determination, grit, hardships, fear, inspiration and resilience; he decided that's what he would like to support and completed the challenge in August 2018.

Ishaan didn't pledge a financial commitment as he was not sure he would be able to make it and was concerned about letting his friends and family down. Now that he has done it, he wishes to announce the unconditional support. He met loads of people on the way including fellow climbers who exuded camaraderie, porters without whom he would have made it and the guides who did far more than just the 'paid job'. He would like to share with everyone that his climb was a 'teamwork of many people' that not only made his climb successful but has taught him an invaluable life lesson of how to look out for each other; friends, family or even those you probably don't know, in difficult times.
He said, it was a difficult climb but well worth doing!

He sends his best wishes and thoughts to women who face the challenge and battle of fighting breast cancer and to all those in medical profession, who make these women realise the dream of reaching the summit i.e, life beyond cancer.

He and his mates realised that whilst ascent was difficult, coming downhill was not an easy task, something nobody warns beforehand, and was met with significant injuries. This seems similar to 'life beyond cancer', which needs to be talked about more. OBBG is playing its part to help women with their journey after cancer treatment,  to get back to routine life.
