Story

Last year I climbed the height of Everest (8848 metres) on a Stair Machine and I can say with absolute certainty it was the hardest thing I have ever done and somehow achieved it in under than 10 hours.

So how do I climber higher?

As I currently work as part of UK Space Command I figured I should climb the distance to space, also known as the Karman Line which is 100km. I will achieve this within a year which will mean I need to climb at least 274 metres per day, everyday! This is the equivalent of just over 101 flights of stairs in a normal family home.

So why am I doing something (crazy) like this? In 2021 my sister-in-law, Flo, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at the age of 34. MND has no cure and is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. The risk of developing MND is 1 in 300, but because it kills a third of people within a year there are only 5000 adults affected in the UK at any one time.
