Clive Alton & Jeff Hills

Jeff and I decided to  attempt something a little more challenging than our usual Peak District hills and Kilimanjaro has always been on our bucket list, and although we are fully funding this ourselves, it felt right to try to raise some funds for a good cause.

My dear sister-in-law, Mandy, who was also a good friend of Jeff's, died of a particularly aggressive brain tumour a year last January, after a relatively short battle with the disease. My wife, Wendy and I were very much involved throughout this distressing period and saw how devastating this cruel disease is, visiting as it did, so out of the blue. Consequently, when the opportunity to climb Mt Kilimanjaro arose, Jeff and I were quick to sign up for it and both agreed that The Brain Tumour Charity was a very worthy and appropriate cause to raise funds for, and raise awareness of the great work this charity does.

We regularly walk in the Peak District, North Yorkshire and Snowdonia, but Kilimanjaro, because of its altitude, will be a real challenge for both of us, and I know that making the summit is not guaranteed - of course it wouldn't be a challenge otherwise. We'd really appreciate any donations, because the more we receive, the harder it will be for us to fail. Watch this space for updates ....

Thank you
